‘Death and Desserts’

    MILO — The Milo Historical Society invites the public to their special October program, “Death and Desserts” presented by John F. Battick, PhD., at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 in the Milo Town Hall Dining Room. The topic of this presentation discusses morbidity and mortality in Maine and the history of epidemic diseases and causes of death over the last 300 years. Dr. Battick will also offer suggestions to the audience about ways to discover the causes of death of their ancestors in order to establish any genetically linked patterns that may exist in their own personal history.

    Dr. Battick is past president of the Maine Genealogical Society and of the Wassebec Genealogical Society. He earned a doctorate in history from Boston University and was on the faculty of the University of Maine for 33 years. He now resides in Dover-Foxcroft and, among several avocations, has been researching his family background both in this country and in Germany and Hungary from whence his ancestors came.
