Diaz receives AP Scholar Award
MILO — Thomas Diaz, a student at Penquis Valley School and the son of Sharon and Ric Diaz of Brownville, has earned an AP Scholar Award in recognition of his exceptional achievement on AP Exams.
The College Board Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of more than the 1.8 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.
Diaz qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing four AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher.
Diaz is a member of the soccer, basketball, track and tennis teams, recently being designated as a Second Team selection for track and field. He is a member of Student Council and was recently a second-place winner in the American Legion Oratorical Contest. Diaz has been a student representative for the school board, a member of the Key Club and a member of National Honor Society. He is also a member of the National Society for High School Scholars and has participated in Seeds of Peace.
Diaz plans on attending a four-year college pursuing studies in Pre-Medicine, majoring in Biochemistry and possibly a minor in Psychology.
