Merrill appointed Long Creek manager

lo-merrillmug-dcX-po-32    SOUTH PORTLAND — Department of Corrections, Joseph Ponte and Associate Commissioner, Joe Fitzpatrick recently announced the appointment of Jeffrey D. Merrill II as the superintendent of the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. Merrill is a 1984 graduate of Foxcroft Academy and a 1988 graduate of Colby College. He has 23 years of experience with the Dept. of Corrections, having held numerous positions as correctional officer, team, assistant superintendent of both the Maine Correctional Center in South Windham and the Long Creek Youth Development Center.

    Merrill is the son of Jeff and Nora Merrill and grandson of Kathryn Merrill of Dover-Foxcroft. He and his wife, Beth, reside in Naples. Their son, Jeffrey III is a senior at Unity College and daughter, Kathryn is a sophomore at Stone Hill College in Massachusetts.
    The Long Creek Youth Development Center is a nationally accredited facility that provides security and treatment to youthful offenders. Mountain View and Long Creek are the only two secure juvenile detention facilities in Maine.
