Hasenfus graduates from West Point

    WEST POINT, N.Y. — Stephanie “Stevie” Hasenfus graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on May 25. Hasenfus is a 2009 graduate of Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft where her parents Lori and Jefferson Prestridge reside. At her commissioning as a 2nd Lt. the parents pinned the boards of her rank on her shoulders.

    WEST POINT GRAD — Stephanie Hasenfus, a 2009 alumnus of Foxcroft Academy, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on May 25. At her commissioning as a 2nd Lt. Hasenfus’ parents Lori and Jefferson Prestridge of Dover-Foxcroft pinned the boards of her rank on her shoulders. 2nd Lt. Hasenfus has elected to serve her country in the transportation branch.

    Hasenfus has elected to serve her country in the transportation branch. Her assignment is likely to include a deployment to Afghanistan to help lead the process to return U.S. property during the drawdown. After her tour in Germany of three to five years, she has been invited to return to West Point as a teacher in combative instruction and physical education because of her skills and expertise in fitness.
    2nd Lt. Hasenfus ranked 103 academically, physically and militarily in a class of over 1,000 cadets. She received the prize for the best Senior Essay and the academic wreath pin for an academic average over 3.8 for the last three semesters.  Her GPA for all four years was 3.6.  Militarily, she is qualified in the advanced corps of the highly respected Air Assault soldiers. Air Assault teams are transported by helicopter to strategic sites and rappel down to the ground rapidly to engage the enemy. This concept was initiated in the Vietnam War and today the U.S. Army is considered the best in the world. She participated with the West Point team in the international Sandhurst competition of running, shooting, obstacle courses and other military challenges.
    On a recent visit to Foxcroft Academy Hasenfus credited her physics, English and physical education teachers as well as her wrestling and cross country coaches, stating that she was well-prepared at Foxcroft Academy for West Point.
    During her years at West Point, the U.S. Military Academy — founded in 1802 as the first engineering college in the country — has been recognized among the top colleges. Hasenfus received an appointment to West Point by U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe.
