Dover-Foxcroft

Concert and workshop with McAuley, Horan and O’Caoimh

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft proudly welcomes the internationally renowned Celtic group McAuley, Horan and O’Caoimh the weekend of June 7.

Two members of the trio, Winifred Horan and Mick McAuley, are members of the Irish-American musical group Solas, which first received national attention by appearing on Prairie Home Companion in 1996. Since then, they have released over 10 albums. For this tour, they have joined forces with the amazing Kilkenny-born guitarist Colm O’Caoimh, who is a founding member of the quickly rising Irish group Caladh Nua.
“Getting a group of this caliber is very exciting for the Center Theatre,” says Executive Director Angela Bonacasa. “Particularly for our area, which is so familiar with this style of music.”
In addition to their concert on Friday, June 7, the group will be staying to teach a special “hands on” workshop on Saturday, June 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Offering instruction in fiddle, guitar, accordion and whistle, the workshop will be open to intermediate and advanced musicians.
“The format is perfect,” says Bonacasa, “because the students will split into sections for hands on instruction in the various instruments, and then will come together at the end for a group Q&A session. We are thrilled that McAuley, Horan and O’Caoimh are so open to bringing their knowledge to our community in the middle of a busy tour.”
The concert is Friday, June 7, at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Center Theatre Box Office or on the theatre’s website. Participants can register and purchase spots in the workshop by calling the Center Theatre box office.
