Spend the night at the Freedom House B&B
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Dennis and Chris Aplanalp moved to Dover-Foxcroft 10 years ago and purchased the 125-year-old farmhouse located at 140 East Main Street. They were looking for an ideal home for their three grown children to visit. Their house was perfect for a “home away from home” during the children’s stay.
This led the Aplanaps to renovate the farmhouse into a bed and breakfast. With the home’s abundant space and their outgoing personalities this marriage makes for a comfortable and convenient place to say during guests visits to the region.
Freedom House B&B has a steady stream of guests who conduct their business in the area. Local businesses such as Mayo Regional Hospital, Foxcroft Academy, Center Theatre, Pine Tree Hospice, Womancare, YMCA, Charlotte White, Hibbard Nursing Home, local churches and many other groups have been very supportive, according to the Aplanalps.
The Freedom House is ready to invite guests coming to the area for the upcoming events such as the Whoopie Pie and Hot Air Balloon festivals, Dover-Foxcroft Homecoming Weekend, and Bike Maine. The Aplanalps are busy making their B&B comfortable for all the guests coming to town in the near future.
The Freedom House, with its three suites, makes a visitor’s stay pleasant while being far from home. The suites are all furnished with all the comforts of home. The suites have a living room with cable television, WiFi connection, mini-kitchen with a microwave with a refrigerator, and a private bathroom.
Each suite is named after the couple’s three children: Heather, Joshua and Christopher. The suites range in area up to 1,300 square feet. This spacious rooms allow guests enough room to relax after spending time in the region. Every morning, the guests also receive a “gourmet breakfast.”
Both Dennis and Chris Aplanalp enjoy this experience.
“It’s not like working because we meet so many interesting people from various regions around the world,” said Dennis Aplanalp.
The couple has hosted guests from 31 states and 18 countries.
“You rarely meet uninteresting people in this business. We both enjoy meeting new people and sharing their stories,” he said. “If you don’t put the needs of your guests ahead of your own, you’re not long for this business.”
The Freedom House has consistently been building a strong reputation over the past seven-plus years of its existence. The B&B offers rooms starting at $79 per night. For more information contact the Aplanalps at 564-8851 or visit their website at www.freedomhousebandb.com.
