DeWitt-Jones Realty is ‘Your Home Town Realtor’

MILO — Driving around the region, passersby are sure to notice the numerous simple red and white signs advertising properties for sale by DeWitt-Jones Realty. The business, which today is owned by Donna Jones, continues to be “Your Home Town Realtor” while also adapting to the changing world.

Donna Jones, who assumed ownership in 2011 and continues to work with previous owner Ellen DeWitt and her husband Edwin, said that Mary Downs of Sebec joined DeWitt-Jones Realty as a sales agent in December 2011. Jones said Downs has close to a decades’ worth of experience in the real estate industry, while she has about a dozen years, Edwin DeWitt more than 20 years and Ellen DeWitt has been in business for 31 years.
“Business has been picking up,” Jones said, saying the number of listings and sales have both increased and she is looking to expand by adding more experienced agents.
Jones said she is utilizing social media including, in addition to the DeWitt-Jones Realty Facebook page, smartphone bar codes on the trademark red and white signs. “If anyone is traveling around and they see our signs they can find out all the information,” DeWitt said about the results of a smartphone scan.
“We are happy to serve people as their home town realtor,” DeWitt said, as DeWitt-Jones Realty takes pride in the “kitchen table broker” tradition where contracts with clients were completed in the home. Today this is represented at the office by having a table on the front porch of DeWitt-Jones Realty.
DeWitt-Jones Realty sells a wide variety of properties from commercial sites and family homes to camps and shore-front acreages. Many clients have been repeat business or had the firm recommended to them by a friend. DeWitt-Jones Realty covers Piscataquis County and southern Penobscot County, is a multiple listing service and advertises in several publications. There is also a bulletin board outside the office enabling potential clients to pick up brochures.
“We can offer a free opinion of value on your property,” Jones said. “If you are thinking of listing it is what you can put your property on the market for,” DeWitt added.
Jones and DeWitt are notary publics and many business cards for local services can be found on the porch in addition to the numerous listings which include a book of listings organized by price. DeWitt-Jones Realty offers services such as photocopying and faxing, and they invite potential clients to come and see all the services offered.
“We have a satellite office for Katahdin Gateway Insurance,” Jones said, adding that the phone number for this business is 943-5955.
DeWitt-Jones Realty is located at 52 Park Street and is open Monday-Friday or by appointment on weekends. For more information call 943-5225 or 1-800-943-5225, go to www.dewittjonesrealty.com or their page on Facebook.
