Maine Whoopie Pie Festival wins vote as the best event of its kind in New England

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — On March 28, the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival was selected as the winner of the 2013 About.com New England Travel Readers’ Choice Award for Best New England Festival or Event. The prestigious award, now in its fifth year, honors the best products, features and services across more than a dozen categories, ranging from technology to hobbies to parenting and more, as selected by About.com readers.

    WHOOPIE! — A young whoopie pie fan celebrates with Sweetie Pie at the 2012 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover-Foxcroft. The Festival was recently selected as About.com New England Travel Readers’ Choice Award for Best New England Festival or Event.

    “We are absolutely thrilled by this recognition,” said Patrick Myers, coordinator of the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, “Just being nominated was a great honor and then to see the outpouring of support from thousands and thousands of Whoopie-Pie Patriots around the world was inspiring.”
    This popular reader-driven awards program began on About.com’s technology channel in 2008 and then expanded to highlight the best products, features and services across a wide variety of topics. Starting in mid-January, About.com accepted reader nominations for the Best New England Festival or Event and based on those nominations their experts chose five finalists. On-line voting was held for several weeks in which anyone could vote for their pick as the winner.
    The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival ran away with the competition garnering 60 percent of the total votes. “It certainly was a sweet victory,” Myers said, “and a testament to the support for the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival and the Maine State Treat.”
    The Festival, taking place on June 22 in Dover-Foxcroft, will include everything that people have come to love over the years, and will also feature live music. The Steve Jones Band will be headlining the live music going on throughout the Festival. Games and rides for the kids as well lots of vendors and, of course, thousands of whoopie pies will greet festival goers.
