SAD 4 to host forum on improving school climate

GUILFORD — SAD 4 will host a citizen’s forum to address concerns, answer questions and discuss ways for improving the climate within the schools. Students on the Piscataquis Community High School Civil Rights team and Peer Counseling program are working with their advisors to prepare the forum  agendas which takes place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 in the Piscataquis Secondary School gymnasium.

The forum is designed to seek ways to counteract a recent period of tension within the middle school. A group of students portraying themselves as a gang, an altercation between two eighth-grade students and recent bomb threat discovered written on the bathroom wall has contributed to the heighten tension within the school, according to SAD 4 Superintendent Paul Stearns.
The majority of the forum will be conducted in small groups working at tables. The participants will discuss three primary questions: What does the school do well? What areas does the school need to improve upon? and What actions are necessary that groups and individuals need to perform?
Forum participants will also be reviewing a student survey about school safety.
SAD 4 officials are requesting that all interested participants contact the school at 876-4625 if they plan to attend.
