CAPITOL TOUR — Rep. Mike Michaud (D-Maine) provided a tour of the U.S. Capitol Building to Greenville residents, from left, Jenny Ward, Peyton Ward, Michaella Gilbert and Jeri Gilbert on March 15 after the group’s tour of the White House for earlier in the week was cancelled due to sequestration
“While I know they were disappointed in the White House tour being cancelled, hopefully the tour of the Capitol Building my staff was able to provide them will help make up for it,” said Michaud, who showed Jenny Ward, Peyton Ward, Michaella Gilbert and Jeri Gilbert around.
Michaud encourages Mainers visiting the nation’s capital to contact his Washington office so that he can help them arrange tours. In addition to the Capitol Building, tours of the U.S Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the Library of Congress are popular and well received. Public tours of the White House have been cancelled indefinitely.
“Due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, we regret to inform you that White House Tours will be canceled effective Saturday, March 9, 2013 until further notice. Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule affected tours,” read the e-mail Michaud’s office received from the White House Visitors Office. “We very much regret having to take this action, particularly during the popular Spring touring season.”
