Big snowmobile race weekend coming up

GREENVILLE — The fourth annual USCC Cross Country Snowmobile Race weekend is on tap for March 2-3. On Saturday, the day starts with the cross country race at 10 a.m. at the Greenville Junction Wharf. This race includes class races for all levels of racing skills, from kids to the pro’s. The races will run for most of the day and will be followed up with an award ceremony at the West Cove Lounge at approximately 5 p.m.

A new feature this year is a stock car race on the ice put on by the West Cove Ice Racers which starts at noon on Saturday. This race is on the racing oval just north of Kelly’s Landing and in easy walking distance from the Wharf. The stock car races are a blast to watch as the cars fly around the oval on studded tires and throw up a blizzard of snow and ice.

On Sunday in the East Cove in downtown Greenville, the local firemen are putting on a snowmobile radar run for anyone who wants to see how fast their sled is on a measured course. There will be 12 classes of races to cover all the sleds from the kids up to the unlimited modified sleds. This will start at 9 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. All you need to do is show up at the starting line and register for the class you want to race in and you are ready to run the 660-foot drag race course. Show your buddies how fast you are and win a ribbon and/or the overall trophy for the fastest sled of the day.

There will be a spectator area set up on the ice right next to the starting line so you can feel the speed of the sleds at they blast off. After the completion of the races, an award ceremony/happy hour will be held at the Leisure Life Restaurant on Lily Bay Road. These three races will be very entertaining to watch and even more fun to enter and win

There will be plenty of good food available on the Wharf on Saturday. Try some of the ribs, hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza that our vendors will offering to keep you warmed up to watch all the racing.

Racer registration for the USCC race will be held at Moosehead Motorsports on Industrial Road in Greenville Jct. on Friday evening from 6-8 or at the USCC race trailer on the Junction Wharf on Saturday morning from 7-8.
