Panciera and Oldfield help USM win two track titles

    GORHAM — Foxcroft Academy graduates Emily Panciera and Chelsea Oldfield helped the University of Southern Maine women’s indoor track and field team win both the Little East Conference and New England Alliance championships on Feb. 11.

    Panciera, a sophomore and Monson resident, ran the second leg of the USM 4×400 relay that finished in first place in the Little East standings with a time of 4:01.10. She also was the second runner on the fourth-place 4×200 relay squad, which had a time of 1:48.19, and placed fourth in the 600 with a time of 1:47.37. In the New England Alliance standings the Husky 4×400 came in first, the 4×200 was sixth and Panciera placed fifth in the 600.

    Oldfield, who is a freshman at USM and a Dover-Foxcroft resident, anchored the USM 4×800 relay team that was second among Little East squads at 10:10.73. She also placed fourth in the 800 at 2:29.50. In the New England Alliance results the 4×800 relay was third and Oldfield came in sixth in the 800.

    USM had 172 points to place first out of six Little East teams, just ahead of second-place Keene (N.H.) State with 168 points.

    Panciera and Oldfield’s team was first of 10 schools in the New England Alliance standings with 138 points, again just ahead of Keene State with a score of 135.
