Eleanor M. Monaco

MONACO, Eleanor M., 88, of Riverside, Conn., at Wilmington, Mass., January 25, 2013. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, Waltham, Mass. Arrangements are in the care of Joyce Funeral Home, Waltham, Mass.

Eleanor M. Monaco

    Eleanor M. Monaco, a longtime resident of Riverside, Conn., died Friday, January 25, 2013 at Woodbriar Nursing Home in Wilmington, Mass. She was 88. Eleanor was a daughter of the late Antonio and Angeline (Civitarese) Monaco. She was born in Cambridge, Mass., where she attended grammar school before her family moved to the Roslindale section of Boston where she graduated from high school.

    Eleanor earned a Master of Arts degree at Salve Regina College in Fitchburg, Mass., and a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from Notre Dame University in Indiana. She was a member of the Sisters of Presentation for 43 years. She also served as a Pastoral Minister at St. Catherine’s Parish in Riverside for ten years and as Director of Food Services at Hill House in Riverside for ten years. After that, she took up residence in Bowerbank, ME.

    She was predeceased by her sister, Carmella Crognale; her brothers, Tom and Frank Monaco; and her nephew, Jack Crognale.

    Eleanor leaves her nephew, John Monaco; her nieces, Dolly Sbardella and Eleanor McCabe; several grand- nieces and nephews; and her devoted friends, Barbara Comstock, and Jim and Dot Gustafson.

    Family and friends will honor and remember Eleanor’s life by gathering in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Rd., Waltham, Mass., on Saturday, February 9, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. A private committal service will be held at a later date in Bowerbank.
