Shorey named AOS 43 assistant superintendent

LAGRANGE — The AOS 43 Board of Directors have named Stacy Shorey of Dover-Foxcroft as assistant superintendent of AOS 43. The AOS oversees the districts of SAD 41 and SAD 31, comprising 10 towns, Milo, Atkinson, LaGrange, Brownville, Howland, Enfield, Edinburg, Passadumkeag, Burlington and Maxfield. The action took place at the AOS 43 board of directors meeting Jan. 23.

Shorey 45, has worked as the director of student services in SAD 41 since 2011, and she has also served as curriculum coordinator for the AOS 43 schools over the past year. Although the position of assistant superintendent begins immediately, Shorey will complete the current school year in her position as director of student services for SAD 41.

Shorey’s responsibilities as assistant superintendent will be overseeing curriculum, instruction and assessment in all AOS 43 schools, according to AOS 43 Superintendent of Schools Michael Wright, “This will allow Stacy to devote the necessary time both districts need to curriculum and instruction,” Wright said.

“Stacy is a tremendous educator with a great work ethic and a wealth of knowledge. Also, people just enjoy working with her,” added Wright. “This is a great step for our two districts in being able to meet state expectations, but more importantly, in being able to achieve the educational and instructional goals of our districts.”

Before coming to work for SAD 41, Shorey was the director of student services in SAD 53 in Pittsfield for five years. She also served as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist and assistant principal in SAD 53 over a period of eight years. Shorey received her undergraduate degree from University of Maine at Farmington in 1989, her master’s degree in literacy from the University of Maine in 2003 and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from UMaine in 2009.
