Abbot board decides not to reduce hours at the transfer station

ABBOT — The board of selectmen considered reducing the transfer station’s hours of operation on Jan. 15 before deciding against making any changes. The transfer station will remain open on Wednesdays and Sundays. The selectmen considered eliminating the Wednesday operating hours from 3 p.m- 6 p.m. as a cost-cutting measure.
“It has been brought to our attention that we could save some money by only having the transfer station open one day a week.” said First Selectman Micky Knowles. “But we decided it really needs to be open more than Sundays because people aren’t always around on the weekend.”
The Sunday hours are from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In other action, the board also changed the town policy for renting the municipal building. In past years only residents could rent the building, but the selectmen have amended the policy to allow all Abbot taxpayers the same courtesy. The municipal building is available to rent for those who want to hold events ranging from a baby shower to wedding reception.
The selectmen will meet next at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the municipal building.
