PO Clifford and Gloria LeightonAmerican Flag Color    GUILFORD— Clifford “Fud” Leighton went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2012, at the age of 85.
Born in Willimantic, Maine on March 19, 1927, he was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the Naval Reserves afterward. He was a true patriot and, to him, all other jobs with Guilford Industries, Hardwood Products, Electrolux, etc. paled in comparison to the importance of this service.
Clifford loved his family and friends and was devoted to his wife of nearly 63 years, Gloria Leighton. He was a member of the Guilford United Methodist Church and worked alongside Gloria on many projects there as well as at Mayo Regional Hospital where he volunteered for 12 years. In addition to Meals for ME, he was involved with the Eastern Area Agency on Aging, RSVP, and a member of the American Legion.
Clifford is survived by his daughter, Vicki Corrington and her husband, Ben of Camden; two sons, Bob Leighton and his wife, Marilyn of Buchanan, GA, and Dale Leighton and his wife, Diana of Union; a brother, Alton Leighton and his wife, Marilyn of Guilford; and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends who were special to him.
“Fud” was predeceased by his loving wife, Gloria Leighton; his mother, Myrtle Hill Leighton; father, Clifford Leighton Sr.; his brothers, Elwin and Virgil Leighton; and sister, Evelyn Demmons.
Friends called from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak Street in Guilford. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2012, at the Guilford United Methodist Church with Pastor Stephen Dean officiating. Spring burial will be in the Lawn cemetery in Guilford.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Guilford United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 267, Guilford, ME 04443, for the renovation of the fellowship hall in memory of Clifford Leighton. Donations will be added to the fund in memory of Gloria Leighton so they can complete the job together.
