Thompson Free Library welcomes author Talty

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft is thrilled to host Morgan Talty, author of the new book “Night of the Living Rez,” in conversation with Lisa Sockabasin, Co-CEO of Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness, Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6 pm. Admission is free and open to everyone.

From the publisher, “Set in a Native community in Maine, ‘Night of the Living Rez’ is a riveting debut collection about what it means to be Penobscot in the twenty-first century and what it means to live, to survive, and to persevere after tragedy.”

Morgan’s work has received glowing praise. The New York Times book review said of “Night of the Living Rez,” “Talty has assured himself a spot in the canon of great Native American literature. . . . [He] forms a rich and vast picture of what it is to be alive, with stunning clarity, empathy and unwavering honesty.”

Sockabasin, who grew up in Dover-Foxcroft, has devoted her professional life to addressing inequities experienced by and providing opportunities to tribal populations. Given the themes in Talty’s book, their conversation promises to be a riveting one, focusing on the realities of the Native experience in Maine and the importance of including Native authors and voices in the cultural narrative, among other topics.
