U.S. Sen. Collins announces $400K for Dexter Regional Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, the ranking member of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that Maine airports have received a total of $14,482,668. This funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

Among the more than one dozen recipients is the Dexter Regional Airport, which was allocated $400,000 to remove marking and lighting obstructions.

“Maine’s airports are vital pieces of our state’s transportation network that promote job creation and economic development.  Throughout the state, airports play a critical role not only in carrying residents and visitors, but also in facilitating medical services for those in rural communities in emergencies when seconds count,” said Collins.  “This significant investment will allow airports across our state to make much-needed improvements to their infrastructure, improving the safety and efficiency of operations.”

The other funding recipients are:

the State of Maine, $600,000 to update the state’s system plan;

Bangor International Airport, $2,133,000 to reconstruct its runway, rehabilitate its taxiway and update its airport master plan;

Hancock County – Bar Harbor Airport, $469,500 to acquire aircraft rescue and firefighting safety equipment, rehabilitate its runway and taxiway, conduct a study and install airport beacons;

Brunswick Airport, $124,823 to seal its runway pavement surface;

Sugarloaf Regional Airport, $322,558 to construct a taxi lane;

Eastport Municipal Airport, $229,000 to conduct an airport wildlife hazard assessment and management plan and update its airport master plan;

Northern Aroostook Regional Airport, $229,000 to acquire snow removal equipment and conduct an airport wildlife hazard assessment and management plan;

Machias Valley Airport, $444,677 to improve its fuel farm;

Millinocket Municipal Airport, $72,000 to conduct a study;

Old Town Municipal Airport, $150,000 to construct a taxiway;

Pittsfield Municipal Airport, $415,110 to construct a building and taxi lane;

Presque Isle International Airport, $993,000 to acquire snow removal equipment and seal apron, runway and taxiway pavement surface joints;

Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport, $2,200,000 rehabilitate its taxiway; and

Waterville Robert Lafleur Airport, $5,700,000 to reconstruct its taxiway and airport lighting vault.

As the ranking member of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, Collins was instrumental in securing $3.75 billion for AIP, including $400 million in supplemental AIP grants, in the Fiscal Year 2021 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill that was signed into law in December.
