Registration opens for 23rd year of Center Theatre Drama Camp

The Center Theatre has announced that registration is open for the Center Theatre Children’s Summer Drama Camp. The Drama Camp program is the oldest program of the Center Theatre beginning in 1999 before the Center Theatre building had been renovated.

“The first Drama Camp was started by Jayne Lello and we will be forever indebted to her passion and leadership for children’s programming,” said Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive director. “Long before the Center Theatre was renovated, Jayne made sure that we were serving the children of our community. We’re proud to be continuing her tradition and to be able to expand our program to Dexter this summer.”

SUMMER DRAMA — Campers rehearse a scene at the 2020 Center Theatre Children’s Summer Drama Camp. The Center Theatre is accepting registrations for the 2021 summer camps, including a new session being held at Dexter Regional High School. Registration information is available at www.centertheatre.org/drama-camps or by calling the Theatre at 207-564-8943.

The Summer Drama Camp is open to kids 8 years and older and due to COVID distancing guidelines will be limited to 15 kids per session. There will be four sessions of camp taking place over the summer: June 21: Dover 1 Camp taught by David Murray, June 28: Monson Camp taught by Derrick Buschmann, July 12 Dover 2 Camp taught by David Murray and Aug. 2: Dexter Camp taught by David Murray.  Each camp will run for two weeks from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the camps the kids learn about all aspects of making a play, from sets, costumes and props to acting, improvisation and teamwork.

The cost for attending camp is different this year. According to Myers, there are more payment options because of the support of sponsors and donors, “We have received several sponsorships and grants this summer that allow us to offer a range of pricing for camp. Parents can pay between $50 and $275 per child per camp based on their own financial situation. The Center Theatre is truly grateful for the support of the Maine Arts Commission, Penobscot County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation, Three Rivers Kiwanis, Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis, Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union, as well as many private donors.”

To register for the camp visit the Theatre’s website at www.centertheatre.org/drama-camps or by calling the Theatre at 207-564-8943. The Center Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to make arts, education and entertainment accessible to our rural communities to engage and inspire.
