Commissioners swallowed the lie whole

To the Editor;

It was with more disgust than surprise that I read the article on the Piscataquis County Commissioners ill-reasoned resolution opposing Gov. Mills’ response to the COVID virus.

As a resident of the county, I am all too aware that we have the fewest post-secondary degrees in the state; but, did the commissioners have to prove it to the whole country?

This commission is an embarrassment. Following four years where truth was destroyed and rumor and misinformation embraced, it is obvious the commissioners are incapable of critical thinking.

Masks cause respiratory disease? Mills has created economic hardship? These uninformed people are obviously angry, but they are projecting that animus towards the wrong person.

Our federal government never partnered with states in a comprehensive plan to combat the disease. Instead, states were left on their own to find resources and testing material; often in competition with other states. Donald Trump dismissed, downplayed and lied about the dangers coming our way, that is an objective fact. Instead of doing his job, he dissembled and misled America. That, commissioners, is why “businesses are being forced to close” and wearing a mask is necessary.

It appears the commission swallowed the lie whole. Myopic attitudes like theirs created the very thing they mad at. Duh!

Maine’s response kept us one of the three safest states in the union. Prudent, science-based policies have saved many lives, and history will show the leadership of Gov. Mills was, unlike the histrionics of the commission, was the reason.

They should all resign immediately; they brought shame to our area and showed their allegiance to a dogma that has no place in county policy.
