Comprehensive women’s chainsaw safety workshop
The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) has built a successful and popular chainsaw safety offering in our area. Over the past three years, we have held four Level 1 trainings and a follow-up Level 2 training. In 2020, we will be offering a 2-day Comprehensive Chainsaw Safety for Women workshop on Sep. 18-19 (rain date is Sept. 20).
For our 2020 Comprehensive Chainsaw Safety for Women workshop, we will have 10 spots available for women seeking instruction on how to safely and confidently operate a chainsaw. Day one will cover personal protective gear, saw maintenance and performance, safely starting and handling a chainsaw and basic cuts. Day two will be entirely hands-on, in the woods, as participants will be putting their day one training to use learning how to properly fell trees, safely maneuver common hang ups, buck and limb felled trees and much more.

CHAINSAW SAFETY — The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District will be welcoming presenters Sam Heffner of the Maine Forest Service and Pam Wells for a Comprehensive Chainsaw Safety for Women workshop on Sept. 18-19.
Our lead presenter for this course will be Sam Heffner and Pam Wells will be assisting. Heffner has worked as a forest ranger with the Maine Forest Service for 13 years and has nine years’ experience instructing chainsaw safety workshops to various organizations. Additionally Heffner was a professional logger for several years, and has competed regionally and nationally in the Game of Logging. We have worked with Wells for several of our chainsaw safety offerings. She brings great perspective and experience for all who work with her. Heffner and Wells make an incredible team and offer exceptional instruction.
Registration is required for our Comprehensive Chainsaw Safety for Women workshop. There is a registration fee for this course, which can be paid via our website – www.piscataquisswcd.org. Space is limited to 10 participants and we encourage folks who are interested in joining us to register soon, as we expect this course to fill.
