DOVER-FOXCROFT — Love is a very powerful force and it can be such a unifying factor in motivating and bringing about positive change. Love for the right, proper reasons can move mountains. Love for one’s country, one’s way of life, and one’s fellow man can bring a person to the point of laying down his or her very life in defense of what is loved.

 

Therefore, we found it fitting and proper to remember. On behalf of Post #29 Chadbourne-Merrill American Legion we would like to offer a few words of remembrance in honor of those who have loved so deeply as to give their all for the cause of freedom and everything it entails. At this important and solemn time, we remember the hard-earned liberty gained through the sacrifice of so many on our behalf, a grateful nation.

Even though we are unable to gather as we wish, having a parade and our traditional events, it is still in our hearts to pay tribute and offer our respect. Reflecting on past military accounts up through present day, as well as pondering the historical significance of Memorial Day, I am personally moved and humbled by the love and dedication of the brave men and women for which the day is set aside. The extreme generosity of their actions astounds and touches me greatly as I recognize I live free because of their sacrifice.

 

As a result, we ask you to join us in remembering and honoring those who made it possible for us to live in this land of freedom. We invite you to reflect on all that it means to you to be free and to recognize the foundation on which that freedom was built. “No greater love has any man than to lay down his life for another.”
