Mayo Regional Hospital launches system-wide overhaul of its patient record system
DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Monday, Jan. 14 Mayo Regional Hospital is bringing on-line an integrated health record system that will combine multiple medical records into one record for each patient. The software behind the system, CERNER, is an integrated database of patient health records that provides a comprehensive set of capabilities to electronically store, capture and access patient health information in both the acute and ambulatory care setting. With this new software, patients within the Mayo Regional hospital network, including its 12 practice locations throughout the region, will have one record across all locations. This means better patient care and outcomes because individual patient information – including medical history, medications, and treatment plan – will be in one place.
Mayo Regional Hospital is encouraging patients to call ahead to pre-register for appointments to reduce wait times while employees become accustomed to the new system. Pre-registrations can be done by calling 564-4200.
The process to convert the software system began over six months ago and has required significant staff involvement and support. Throughout the year, milestones were set for learning and training, integration testing, workflow, and implementation.
“Our team has worked really hard and has done an excellent job of converting our patient record system. With one patient, one record, Mayo Regional Hospital is implementing a safer and more effective system of keeping records for our patients,” said Marie Vienneau, president and CEO of the hospital.
The system enables care providers to quickly access current, accurate and complete information about their patient which results in more coordinated, efficient care. The new system also allows Mayo providers to securely share electronic information with patients and other clinicians, and helps providers to more effectively diagnose patients, reduce medical and prescribing errors, which result in better outcomes for patients.
