DEXTER — There are lots of free programs being offered at the Abbott Memorial Makerspace in January.

On Saturday, Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon, Ron Apel will conducting a beginning course in Micro controllers for all ages. Micro controllers are all around us in our daily lives from your microwave to your TV to your car. This workshop will be the first of several to learn how Micro controllers work. This “hands on” workshop will use a low cost Elegoo (Ardunio) Micro controller (provided) to make simple electronic control projects. Seating is limited to six groups of two.

On Tuesday, Jan. 15, we will kick off our Teen Science Cafe. Are you a teen who likes STEM? The Teen Science Café invites STEM professionals from Maine to come and talk at our cafés. They share their experiences on their profession, and they share activities that demonstrate what their profession is about and why it’s so cool. Come join us for pizza and planning.

Children ages 5-11 are invited to come to the Makerspace on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 11 a.m. until noon to learn and play using our iPads and Osmo, a very fun educational program. Students can choose from basic coding games, to word games, and even tan-gram. Parents of children 9 and under are asked to stay and help.

The Abbott Memorial Library Makerspace features a Glowforge Laser Cutter and Engraver. People ages 16 and up are invited to come join our Makerspace Director Mrs. Millette on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to noon as she explains how the Glowforge works and shows you how to design your own project.
