FA’s Clukey wins conference title in 100 freestyle

ORONO — Foxcroft Academy senior Jenna Clukey captured the 100-yard freestyle title at the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) championship on Feb. 10 at the University of Maine.

Clukey swam the 100 free in 55.19 seconds, besting the time of 57.67 seconds posted by Sydney Blain of Brewer High School.

Clukey also came in second in the 50 free. Her time of 25.90 seconds trailed only the 25.35 seconds for Ellsworth High School’s Ellie Clarke.

In the 200 free relay, Clukey opened for Foxcroft. She, Amy Waugh, Abby Henderson and Chloe Waught finished in 10th place with a time of 2:01.50.

Chloe Waugh also placed for the Ponies, coming in 11th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:15.98.

The Foxcroft girls tallied a score of 37 points to the conference meet, placing 12th of 12 schools.

The boys from Foxcroft were also 12th at the PVC meet on Feb. 9 at the University of Maine. The Ponies scored 18 points to grab the 12th spot among 17 schools.

A pair of Pony relay teams finished in the top 10. The 200 medley squad came in eighth as Samuel Gidman, Andy Yu, Nathaniel Skomars and Noah Contreras combined for a time of 2:12.05.

The 200 free relay squad placed ninth in a time of 1:58.55. This team was comprised of Skomars, Triston Green, Hunter Kemp and Contreras.

Greenville High School’s Ian Blackstone took part in the PVC finals and he placed 10th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.89. Blackstone earned all three Laker points as Greenville tied the Bangor Christian School for 16th place.

Next up is the Class B championships at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, with the girls’ competition on Monday, Feb. 19 and the boys scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 20.
